Ramesh Terdal is an Indian contemporary visual artist. His paintings are built from saturated colour and heavily worked surfaces, where animals and figures seem to surface out of layered texture and movement.
Alongside his canvases he draws portraits in charcoal, from quiet studies of strangers to commissioned likenesses. He paints in front of people as often as in the studio, holding live sessions outdoors and in galleries, and his work has taken him to exhibitions and art exchanges abroad, including Russia and the Art Bridge Danube–Ganges 2022 programme, where he was named an Ambassador of Art.
His practice moves between two registers. In the large paintings, colour carries the emotion: a blazing orange behind a winged tiger, a yellow field broken by blue, red grounds for his horse series. In the charcoal work the palette drops away and attention goes to light, skin, fabric and expression, sometimes with a single note of colour such as the red hibiscus in The Silent Grace.
Working abroad, he has presented portraits as gifts, joined collaborative workshops with fellow artists, and painted live with sitters in open air. That exchange between Indian sensibility and international audiences runs through the whole body of work.

The Horse Series
Strength in Motion
An expressive series exploring movement, strength, energy, and the dynamic relationship between colour and form.
Three panels on red grounds, each horse half-emerging from scraped, layered paint.

Art in Real Spaces
Ramesh often paints in front of an audience: portrait sittings in the open air, demonstrations in galleries, and collaborative workshops with other artists. Watching a portrait form, from the first block of colour to a finished likeness, turns art into something shared.
Sessions can be arranged for festivals, galleries, schools and private events.
Soulful portraits in charcoal that hold personality, emotion and depth, drawn from life, from photographs, or on commission.

Editorial note
Across canvas and paper, Ramesh Terdal’s work keeps returning to the same idea: that a single painted moment can carry a feeling across languages and borders.
